The J.F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center invites artists, families, and creative minds of all ages to participate in Capturing History: Community Art Day at Glidden on Sunday, August 23, from 1 to 4 p.m.
This free community event encourages participants to explore the Homestead through art. The first 20 registered participants will receive a complimentary 8×10 canvas, courtesy of Michaels, and is invited to create their own artistic interpretation of the historic site. From the iconic brick barn where Joseph F. Glidden invented barbed wire to the historic house, blacksmith shop, and gardens, there is inspiration around every corner.
The event is open to all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re an experienced artist, an occasional sketcher, or simply looking for a fun and creative afternoon, everyone is welcome to participate.
The event is made possible through the generosity of Michaels, the presenting sponsor, which donated the canvases for participants. Participants are encouraged to bring their own preferred art supplies. Michaels will provide a limited supply of shared paintbrushes and assorted acrylic craft paints to borrow if needed. “We’re excited to see how our community interprets the Homestead through art,” said Executive Director Jessi Haish LaRue. “History can inspire creativity in so many ways, and this event provides an opportunity for people to slow down, explore the site, and capture what speaks to them.”
