Chamber Member St. Paul’s Episcopal Church DeKalb participates in DeKalb County Garden Walk

The people of St. Paul’s were so happy to have the Rick Johns Communiversity Garden be selected for the July 11th 2026 DeKalb County Garden Walk as the “Educational Spotlight Garden”. Over 200 visitors walked around the garden viewing the vegetables, fruit, and pollinator plants and learning about the gardeners’ efforts. Produce from the garden is distributed to local food pantries through the growing season; over 1200 pounds of food was given last year, and the gardeners have expanded the garden’s footprint in 2026 so even more fresh food will be given to the pantries.

The Communiversity Garden also provides a place for students from Northern Illinois University to learn about planting and growing food each semester. This year three interns have been spending much time creating the cornucopia that has become the garden’s output.
