This March 1st marks a double celebration at the Egyptian Theatre, as we joyously observe two significant anniversaries! Not only does this year commemorate the 46th anniversary of Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre, Inc., but it also marks the impressive 18-year career of our esteemed Executive Director, Alex Nerad.

Over the span of four and a half decades, Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre, Inc. has been instrumental in transforming the Egyptian Theatre from the brink of demolition to a vibrant and thriving cultural hub for the City of DeKalb and its residents. The journey has been nothing short of remarkable, and we take pride in the positive impact that these 46 years have had on preserving and revitalizing this iconic venue.

Equally noteworthy is the dedicated leadership of Alex Nerad, who, for 18 years, has been the guiding force behind the Egyptian Theatre’s success story. March 1st not only symbolizes another milestone for the institution but also serves as a tribute to Alex’s unwavering commitment. As the Executive Director, Alex played a pivotal role in the physical expansion of the theater during its renovations in 2011 and 2019-2020, ensuring its modernization and continued relevance.

Beyond the bricks and mortar, Alex has curated a diverse and engaging calendar of events, offering something for everyone in the community. His visionary approach and tireless efforts have significantly contributed to the Egyptian Theatre’s status as a cultural cornerstone in DeKalb.
