Tails Dog’s Day Out program is helping shelter dogs step outside the kennel and into the community while increasing their chances of adoption. This program allows community members to take an adoptable dog out for a few hours or a full day to enjoy everyday activities like hiking, relaxing at home, visiting local businesses, or getting a pup cup. These outings provide valuable enrichment, help reduce stress and anxiety for shelter pets, and give staff and potential adopters a better understanding of each dog’s personality outside of the shelter environment.
Dog’s Day Out has already helped many dogs gain confidence, build social skills, and connect with future adopters. Participants often share photos, videos, and notes from their adventures, helping showcase each dog’s unique personality to the community. It’s a simple but impactful way for animal lovers to support homeless pets- even if they are not able to adopt or foster full-time.
