The J.F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center will host its annual Holiday at The Homestead open house from 12-4 pm on Sunday, December 7, welcoming visitors to the historic property at 921 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb. This festive afternoon is free and open to the public.
Guests are to explore the beautifully decorated historic home. Children can take part in a clothespin doll craft, and visitors may browse the museum’s gift shop to discover unique holiday gifts. Sweet treats and cookies will be available throughout the event.
Music will fill the Homestead as the DeKalb High School Black Box Quartet performs live at 1 p.m., followed by spirited caroling from the Lightbeam Players at 2 p.m. Throughout the afternoon, volunteers will offer tours of the historic home. Visitors are advised that some activities are located on the second floor and require climbing a flight of stairs.
“The Open House is our way of expressing gratitude to the community for its continued support,” said Jessi Haish LaRue, Glidden Homestead Executive Director. “We look forward to welcoming guests of all ages to experience the history, music, and warmth of the season at the Homestead.”
The J.F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center is a nonprofit dedicated to the preservation of the Glidden Homestead, a historically significant site where Joseph F. Glidden invented the revolutionary “The Winner” barbed wire, which transformed agriculture in the United States. The Homestead’s house and barn are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
