Here at CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) DeKalb County, we are looking for dedicated, compassionate individuals to join our team as volunteer Advocates. In this role, you will help join us in making a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families. CASA is a nonprofit organization that works with children involved in Dekalb County’s juvenile court system due to abuse and neglect. CASA trains volunteers (known as Advocates) to advocate for the best interest of these children and be their voice in court.
To become a volunteer, you must be at least 24 years old and willing to commit at least 10 hours per month to the role. The role includes gathering information about the child(ren)’s life through visits with the child(ren) and others involved in their lives and providing information to the Judge through a written report to the court. There is no prior education, or a specific background required to become a volunteer.
Becoming a CASA volunteer simply starts with completing this online application (casadekalb.org/volunteer-app), followed by a one-on-one interview, and a 30-hour training program.
Act fast! Spring Advocate Training starts March 9 and will take place on Monday evenings from 5 to 8pm in-person at CASA’s office through April 20. Once you complete the training, you will be sworn in by the court and will be assigned in your first case!
