You’re Invited to Hands Around the Courthouse on April 16

CASA DeKalb County and Family Service Agency of DeKalb County are hosting Hands Around the Courthouse on April 16 at 12 PM at the DeKalb County Courthouse in recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. We invite the community to join us to honor children who have experienced abuse or neglect and to draw attention to this important issue.

At least 1 in 7 children experienced abuse or neglect in the US in 2021*, the most recent data available; there were 600,000 child victims of abuse or neglect in the US in 2021**. Child abuse can have long-term psychological, emotional and physical effects on children, which is why it is so important to give children the support they need after experiencing such trauma.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) provides Advocates for children who are involved in the court system due to abuse or neglect by a parent or guardian. CASA represents the children as their Guardian ad Litem and makes recommendations to the court regarding the children’s best interests.

Family Service Agency is home to the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) who coordinates services and safe, child-sensitive support for children who have experienced abuse and their non-offending family members. The CAC also provides age-appropriate prevention education to children throughout DeKalb County.

Hands Around the Courthouse on April 16 is a free event and open to the public. We encourage you to attend to show support for some of the most vulnerable children in DeKalb County. For more information, visit or call 815-895-2052.
